LIONS MANE MUSHROOMS
Lion’s Mane’s distinctive flavor and texture is reminiscent of seafood, but with a more firm and chewy texture than most other mushrooms. It’s delicious cooked over low heat and is similar to crab or lobster.
Lion’s Mane is one of the more exotic looking mushrooms, yet native to Virginia forests. Lion’s Mane (which also goes by Pom Pom, Bearded Hedgehog, and Monkey’s Face), fruits in the summer on hardwood logs, including Oak, Maple, Walnut and even that pesky opportunist Ailanthus (Tree of Heaven).
Scientific studies suggest that Lion’s Mane simulates your body to produce nerve growth factor to help regenerate nerve cells, improve cognitive function, and speed wound healing.
